Scenario for consideration: Oklahoma edges out Florida in a close game... Texas manhandles Ohio State (a common theme in BCS matchups as of late, and it may make the voters take Texas for a champion because they are so used to the mauler of OSU being crowned)... Two one-loss teams split a title (BCS vs. AP) except one has BEATEN THE OTHER ON THE FIELD... ON A NEUTRAL SITE!!!
The question: Why don't we have a playoff, again?

If Utah wins, give it to them.
the BCS Sucks
but Ohio State can take Texas.
we should have just stuck with the bowls. except for Georgia Tech, nobody really got hosed. And let's be honest, who cares about G-Tech?
It was good. Let's stop assuming the grass is greener in the playoff system... it certainly doesn't work that way in the NFL.
Wait... it doesn't work that way in the NFL? How is that? Do people question SB championships and I don't know about it? I'm confused. Did the Patriots win the whole thing last year? Did I miss something?
Keep this in mind. If we had the old bowl system (No BCS), you're probably looking at this scenario-
Orange Bowl- Oklahoma vs. Virginia Tech
Sugar Bowl- Florida vs. Texas
Assuming Oklahoma won the orange bowl(and how could you not assume that), that would be chaos no matter who won the Sugar Bowl.
Also, Utah would be getting royally hosed in the old bowl system, because I can guarantee you the Fiesta Bowl wouldn't bring them in unless they had to.
Also, it DOESN'T work that way in the NFL?????????
HUH??????????
that needs an explanation.
the grass is NOT greener in the NFL because the best team does not necessarily win. it's a fallacy to assume that the team that won is in fact the best team. it's the team that experiences the least misfortune. actual skill has little to do with who wins, (except for coaching talent).
so that being said, the same is true in football, basketball, and of course baseball. the most talented teams are not necessarily winners.
The goal is to have a champion who everyone agrees earned a title. Whether the best team or not on paper, the champion earns a title. Only a playoff really gets us to a champion everyone can ACCEPT. Your argument of the best not always winning is an unsolvable dilemma. We're just looking for a champion.
